TRUSTEES APPLICATION

We are currently seeking applicants for the role of

Trustee

  • Are you passionate about the performing arts and committed to shaping the future of theatre training? The British American Drama Academy (BADA) is seeking new Trustees to join our Board and help guide the strategic direction, financial sustainability, and artistic vision of our internationally acclaimed drama school

Joining BADA’s Board of Trustees presents a unique opportunity to influence the future of theatre education. As a Trustee, you’ll play a pivotal role in guiding the strategic direction, financial sustainability, and artistic vision of an academy renowned for its commitment to excellence. Your passion for the performing arts and dedication to nurturing the next generation of theatre practitioners will be instrumental in upholding BADA’s mission and expanding its impact on the global stage.

As a Trustee, you will help to ensure that BADA remains a world-class institution. You will be joining an engaged and dynamic Board of Trustees where your expertise can make a real impact on the future of a top British theatre academy.

While governance is at the heart of a Trustee’s role, BADA is a small but ambitious organisation with a lean executive and administrative team. This means that, when needed, Trustees have the opportunity and need to contribute their skills in a hands-on way, working collaboratively with staff to help the Academy thrive.

If you’re passionate about arts education and looking for a meaningful and rewarding way to make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Provide strategic oversight, ensuring the Academy has a clear vision, mission, and objectives.
    • Support and challenge the leadership team, helping to shape policy, set goals, and monitor performance.
    • Ensure financial stability and sustainability, reviewing budgets and business plans while delegating day-to-day management to staff.
    • Safeguard the Academy’s reputation and values, championing equality, anti-racism, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of its work.
    • Engage in fundraising efforts, which may include providing support attending events, making introductions, or contributing personally within your means.
    • Use your professional networks to benefit the Academy and advocate for its work. • Attend student productions and key events to support staff and students.
    • Devote the necessary time and effort to your role, actively participating in Board meetings and strategic discussions.

    Who we’re looking for:

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds who are committed to supporting the Academy’s mission. You should have:

    • A passion for theatre, education, and the arts.
    • Strategic vision and sound independent judgment.
    • An understanding of the responsibilities and legal duties of trusteeship.
    • A strong commitment to promoting anti-racism, equality, diversity and inclusion.
    • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
    • An appreciation of the distinct roles of the Chair, Trustees, and Executive leadership.

Previous board experience is not essential, and we encourage applications from those looking to take on their first trusteeship.

  • Applications should be made either in writing or in a short video and sent by e mail setting out why you are interested in joining the BADA Board and how your experience can contribute.

    In addition, please include:

    • An updated CV
    • A completed Monitoring form (link below), which is used for statistical purposes only. It will be detached on receipt of application which will remain anonymous.

If there is anything you need to support your application to ensure your interview is as accessible as possible, please let us know.

Applications should be emailed to BADA’s Executive Assistant, Dawn Brown, at: recruitment@bada.org.uk, to arrive no later than 12 noon on Monday 7th April 2025. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews, held via Zoom, during the period from mid-April to mid-May 2025. A final round of in person interviews will take place at BADA’s offices in London in early June 2025.
